My first time operating HF in the field was this past weekend, 12/6/2020. Daytime on 40 meters out of the back of an RV with LiFePo4 batteries. Power was easy. Without a mast though, getting the antenna high enough off the ground was impossible. I found 7.192.00 busy with a SOTA activation. Operator was N3BZ on Mt Doom, which I have no idea where that is, and without the SOTA call sign I'm left to guess that the general region is in Arizona. I was in Moab, UT. His station had to have been qrp, but came in clear at 5 and 9. I made contact with him, and it was my first hf contact. No real qso. But I now know that my signal was heard.
once I get my station up and running at home I will attempt wspr contact.
