630m WSPR Activity Weekend Down-Under (VK/ZL/DX)
You are invited to participate!
When?
September 14, 2013 Saturday 08:00 GMT (Saturday evening Sydney time)to
September 15, 2013 Sunday 22:00 GMT (Monday morning Sydney time)
Frequency
Dial frequency: 0.474200 MHz [USB] which is default WSPR frequency
Activity
Get on air as a receiving, transmitting, or both RX/TX station on WSPR mode, 630m
Why?
- to have some fun
- to put the 'new' MF band in good use, demonstrating our willingness to do our best promoting amateur radio
- to excite fellow amateur radio operators who already use WSPR mode to join us down on 630m
- to improve the technical capabilities of our own radio setups
- the best MF propagation are around the equinox! September is a fantastic time to be on air so don't miss potential DX openings!
Each WSPR reception report counts!
To have even more fun (to make you work even harder!) a simple
'scoring' system will be in place for during the activity weekend:
1 call sign report = 1 point.
For example: VK2ABC transmits and over the weekend his signal is decoded on by 4 different recipients. Total TX score = 4 points
He also receives and decodes VK1BB, VK2CC and ZL3EEE so his RX score is 3 points.
Grand total = 7.
While a scoring system may be unnecessary for some, having a bit of
fair, gentlemanly competition may actually create a desirable effect and result in higher than expected activity.
Also, data collected will help us compare our current activity in a similar event in the future.
If you are worried that the WSPR segment may become overcrowded then you may have a valid
point, but let's work together to make the event a memorable one.
Feel free to comment.
